We, Citizens of Australia, beg to remind you and the National Parliament that, in June 1992, the First of September was promulgated Wattle Day and that the whole idea of making the first day of the Spring season ‘Wattle Day’ was to celebrate the natural beauty of the Australian environment, writ large.

We, furthermore, wish to bring to your notice the fact that there are no National Public Holidays in the second half of the calendar year prior to Christmas Day and Boxing Day in the very last part of December each calendar year.

We, as a nation, are well and truly advanced upon our second century as a Commonwealth Federation. We earnestly believe that the time has arrived for this country to, uniformly & nationally celebrate an ‘ALL THINGS AUSTRALIAN’ Day. We, therefore, passionately petition YOU and your Ministers to proclaim Wattle Day as a National Public Holiday – to replace the now anachronistic Queen’s Birthday Public Holiday which was NOT uniformly celebrated – and to give some equilibrium to the National Public Holiday regime simultaneously – irrespective of whatever plans or schemes which may be in train to establish an official King’s Birthday Public Holiday suggesting, earnestly, that be the Anniversary of the day our Monarch was coronated viz 6 May.
