by Peter Consandine
January, 2015 was the month when the Australian Republic-by-Default Campaign continued in earnest with a cohesive, on-the-ground effort in Victoria following on from the ‘Test Run’ in the Island State of Tasmania in October, 2014.
The inaugural Committee Meeting at the Cafe Republic in South Yarra on 14 January, 2015 signed off – APPROVINGLY – on the following resolutions:
The prepared petitions for (a) A Republic for the State of Victoria and (b) Popular Election of the Victorian State Governor – a complementary petition to the first petition.
The colourful, attention-getting sign: ‘The REPUBLIC of Victoria – How About It?’
The next Get-Together to be on 10 June at the same, fairly central venue in Greater Melbourne.
The need to do soundings in the meantime to gain important imprimatur, respectability and entity per Sponsorship.
The need to plump for publicity for The Cause – but ONLY once the petitions go on-line in June.
The paramount importance of the Australian Republic-by-Default Campaign carrying on through to the next Federal Senate election and beyond.
The sense in preparing a Survey form – to be finalised at the June Committee meeting.
Peter Consandine appointed to extend his involvement in the Victorian State Republic Campaign so far as ‘The Co-Ordinating Secretary’ until, at least, the June Committee meeting.
Following the Inaugural Committee Meeting Peter Consandine went on to conduct ALL-day Republican street meetings in eight (8) new locations: Box Hill, Canterbury, Geelong West, Colac, Montmorency, Rosebud (on Australia Day), Gardenvale and Castlemaine where the signers-on to the Victorian State Republic Campaign were: 11, 6, 7, 7, 9, 12, 10 and 10 respectively for a total of 72.
In addition, Peter Consandine went door-to-door in the suburbs/townships of Blackburn, Port Melbourne, St Kilda, Mount Duneed, Oak Park, Gladstone Park, Frankston, Somers, Hampton East, Clifton Hill, Melbourne CBD, Castlemaine, Bendigo, Denver, Northcote, Richmond, Surrey Hills, Balwyn, Heathmont and Bairnsdale between 20 January and 2 February to pick up 27 (more)
signers-on to the Victorian State Republic Campaign.
The Grand Total of signers-on to the Victorian State Republic Campaign numbering a very healthy 99 by the time of departure of the Co-Ordinating Secretary for the NSW South Coast.
